Most wallets follow standards in a way that you can use the same accounts on multiple different apps. All you need to do is set the same Recovery Phrase on the apps. Then the coins in both should have the same address, balance and history.
However some wallets may follow different standards. Extra steps may be needed if you want to restore a different wallet's Recovery Phrase in Koala Wallet and expect to restore the same accounts. For these cases read the instructions below.
Recovery Phrase length
Currently Koala Wallet can only restore Recovery Phrases with 24 words. If your other wallet's phrase has a different number of words, unfortunately it's not possible to restore it in Koala Wallet yet, but it will be in the future.
Ecko Wallet
The address derivation method on Ecko Wallet is fundamentally different from the method used by Koala Wallet, and goes beyond simply the number of words. Currently, directly restoring a Recovery Phrase from Ecko Wallet would not restore the same account. This may be possible in the future.
Manually setting a derivation path
If the other wallet's Recovery Phrase is accepted, but you get different addresses for the coins you want to use, most likely the coins differ in the "derivation path". Think of it as instructions for transforming a seed into an address. For these cases Koala Wallet allows you to manually set a derivation path when adding EVM coins. To do it, press the "+" button to open the list of coins to add, then press and hold the coin you want to add for 2 seconds.
Then you will be able to set any derivation path you want for the coin you're adding.
After confirming, the newly added wallet will be named according to the path if it doesn't use Koala Wallet's standard, so you remember it.
Common paths from other wallets
Try the values below if you're not getting the expected address after adding a wallet originally from a different app
Polygon: m/44'/60'/0'/0/0
Optimism: m/44'/60'/0'/0/0
Keep your Recovery Phrase secure
If you're migrating from a different app, tried all suggestions and still and do not get the expected wallets, DO NOT share your Recovery Phrase with anyone, not even official support staff. Doing so will permanently jeopardize the security of your funds. Read more about it here: Recovery Phrase security
